A half-length in which the sitter, wearing a red jacket, delicate point lace fichu and ruffled engageantes, is gazing at us as if she interrupted reading, her finger still marking the page of a book laid down on a green velvet pillow.

The front with repoussé Greek-keys and acanthus leaves.
The hinged lid with three miniatures identified with inscription on ribbon: Roi de Rome -a title given to Napoleon II (1811-1832) son of Napoleon and Marie-Louise- surmounted with the imperial crown, flanked by Napoleon and Josephine (sic) on enamelled mauve guilloché ground.
The rim bordered with coloured glass beads.
Circa 1819.
