Ebonised hardwood shaft.
John Bertram (1829-1906) was the co-founder of Canada tool works, a major supplier to railway companies, in Dundas, a town which enjoyed considerable economic prosperity in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, presently a community of Hamilton - South Ontario -.
Canada tool works became John Bertram & Sons" in 1886 and closed in 1986. American, 1880s
