The male has his right paw on a ball, which represents the "Flower of life"; under the left paw of the female Foo Dog is a playful lion cub lying on his back
Carved from a single, solid piece of genuine elephant ivory tusk
Signed on one bottom
Circa 1900
Presented on carved wooden stands.
Height: 9.8 cm (3" 7/8)
The Foo Dog resemble the mythical Chinese guardian lions and hence is also called Lion Dog.
