hair tied in a bun by a string of beads,
crowned with a coronet on which is written the word “liberty.”

Reverse:
the bald eagle, American emblem of freedom, with outspread wings,
in his right talon the eagle holds an olive branch, in his left three arrows.
Above the eagle a banner with «In God We Trust»**

** The Civil War stimulated religious feeling. This was reflected in 1865 where a law passed and required “In God We Trust” to be placed on all American coins.
