Indian Head
Five dollars Indian Head or Half Eagle
1909 United States gold coin mounted in gold pendant (18K french gold)
Obverse: a proud Native American warrior in his feather war headdress
Reverse: feathered American Eagle sits with closed wings on a bundle of arrows over the words FIVE-DOLLARS;
surrounded by UNITED.STATES.OF.AMERICA;
with the inscriptions "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST".
The Indian Head was designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, produced by the United States government between 1908 and 1929.
Indian head type is unique in U.S. coinage in that the design is pressed down into the background of the gold rather than raised up (called an incuse design).
